The last days of the year are upon us, and the auction season is just about to wrap up with the New York sales. You’ve already heard about the cover lots, so I thought we’d shed some light on a handful of outliers deserving of your attention. Since we haven’t had a thematic roundup lately, I thought we’d give one a go. The name of the game this week is old and gold.It's the instantly recognizable tri-color sub link registers in sunburst grey, black (really dark grey), and blue that stand out first. There are few truly iconic design elements in the watch world (with brands like Rolex, AP, Patek, and Omega each having one or two pieces that qualify) but the tri-color look of the El Primero is surely one of them.From its introduction in the mid-1990s and into our current year, the Millenary collection has represented one of the most creative veins of design in Audemars Piguet's recent history. Here,Panerai's Luminor line is beloved for its signature sandwich dial. However, all collections must evolve, which brings us to the PAM00978 that does away with the classic black tool watch face. It substitutes a silver dial with vertical brushing and applied hour markers. And the result, we must say, is pretty killer.</br>
Another thing that refers to the diving capabilities of the watch is the rubber strap, which hugs the case nicely link between the lugs. In addition to the black strap, you get a burgundy version, and both come with a black DLC-coated titanium deployant clasp with the same matte micro-blasted finish as on the case.From there on you'd easily forget it's there as the winder runs smooth trough it's program and is very silent.I can tell you what will happen: buying an alternative will not satisfy you.This is actually not the first Black Bay in ceramic – you might remember that that honor goes to a watch Tudor created for the Only Watch benefit auction in 2019 (the auction is held every two years, and proceeds go to benefit research into therapies and a cure for muscular dystrophy). That watch was the Black Bay Ceramic One, which hammered for CHF 350,000. The new Black Bay Ceramic is, however, the first full production Tudor Black Bay in ceramic.</br>
